Former ASML CEO Bennink and swimming viewing draw attention
Lunch with Tesla, Coca-Cola, and YouTube CEOs
The global business leaders that Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong met in Paris, France, where the 2024 Olympics will be held, are drawing attention.
According to industry sources, Chairman Lee was recently spotted on social network services (SNS) and online communities sitting in the stands at the La Defense Arena in Paris where the swimming competition was held on the 3rd.
The person sitting next to Chairman Lee in this photo is Peter Wennink, former CEO of ASML. The two showed their friendship while watching the game affectionately.
ASML, a Dutch semiconductor equipment company known as the “Semiconductor Super,” is the only company in the world that produces extreme ultraviolet (EUV) exposure equipment. President Yoon Seok-yeol visited ASML’s “clean room” in December last year, becoming the first foreign leader to do so, and was accompanied by Chairman Lee and SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won.
The chairman has been contributing to ASML for a long time. The chairman visited ASML headquarters during a business trip to Europe in June 2022, and also had a tea meeting with CEO Wennink during Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s official visit to Korea in November.
The chairman also attracted attention by holding relay meetings with global business leaders in the semiconductor, IT (information and communications), and automobile industries during the Paris Olympics.
Chairman Lee, who attended a luncheon for global businesspeople held at the Elysee Palace in Paris on the 25th of last month at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, shared various opinions with the attendees on ▲global economic outlook ▲future technology trends ▲organizational culture innovation, etc.
About 40 global business leaders attended the luncheon that day, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey, YouTube CEO Neil Mohan, Eli Lilly CEO Dave Riggs, and LVMH Chairman Bernard Arnault.
The chairman then attended the ‘Paris Olympics Opening Eve Dinner’ co-hosted by IOC President Thomas Bach and President Macron, along with his mother, Hong Ra-hee.
The dinner, held at the Louvre Museum, was attended by many world leaders, including around 100 IOC members, King Philip VI of Spain, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, King Frederik X of Denmark, and Prince Albert II of Monaco.
It is also known that during the Paris Olympics, the chairman met separately with Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and CEO Musk to discuss business cooperation in the automotive semiconductor and battery sectors.
The chairman, who returned home the day before from a two-week business trip to Paris via the Seoul Gimpo Business Aviation Center, said, “It will show in the results.” He said, “I was so happy that our players did well,” and “I felt rewarded because the marketing of taking selfies with the Flip 6 seemed to have worked well.”
Previously, Samsung Electronics promoted the Galaxy Z Flip 6 through the ‘Victory Selfie’ program, which allowed athletes who won medals at the Paris Olympics to directly capture the moment of receiving their awards. Previously, all personal belongings, including mobile phones, were prohibited from being brought into Olympic award ceremonies, but Samsung Electronics operated this program for the first time at the Olympics in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Paris Organizing Committee.
Samsung Electronics previously distributed 17,000 Flip6 Olympic Edition units equipped with Galaxy AI to athletes at the Samsung Olympic Experience Center located in the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Village, France. The athletes responded enthusiastically as they stood on the podium and celebrated their glorious moment with the Flip6.
Representative athletes from each country, including Shin Yu-bin (table tennis), Ahn Se-young (badminton), Alejandra Orozco Rosa (diving, Mexico), and Jagger Eaton (skateboarding, USA), who belong to ‘Team Samsung Galaxy’, an athlete group sponsored by Samsung Electronics, visited the Samsung Experience Center in the Olympic Village and took pictures together, drawing attention as they enjoyed the Olympics.
