While the IOC Coordination Commission will be in Paris next Monday, the actors are increasing the number of interviews. The Olympic works delivery company (Solideo) and the Olympic Games organizing committee (Cojo) – the two structures created to carry out the project – will meet on Thursday, in the presence of Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. The opportunity to validate certain arbitrations following the report of the General Inspectorate of Finance and to propose a new map of the sites, after new interviews with the international federations. The choice of sports inside the sites will be definitively decided at the end of the year.

A new site appears. On the Olympic map, we must now reckon with the “ephemeral Grand Palais”, created by the Grand Palais in order to maintain its exhibitions during the Olympic works (between 2020 and 2023). This will be installed at the Champ de Mars, not far from the military school and will then be used by the Cojo, certainly for judo and wrestling.

The AccorHotels Arena dedicated to basketball. The international basketball federation claimed Bercy, it was heard. If the first phase was to take place at Arena 2 (Porte de la Chapelle), the entire tournament of the men’s tournament will finally take place at the AccorHotels Arena… Forcing judo to move. Tony Estanguet then put on his negotiator outfit against Marius Vizer, boss of the International Judo Federation. Two alternatives were proposed to him: an emblematic site (the ephemeral Grand Palais) or a stadium with a capacity to accommodate more spectators (the Suzanne-Lenglen court at Roland-Garros, where boxing is to take place).

The final phase of handball at the Paris La Défense Arena. Results of the French teams helping, Joël Delplanque, the president of the French handball federation wanted a more prestigious room than the Parc des Expositions, even brandishing the idea of organizing the final phase… at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Lille! No need to go so far, the U Arena in Nanterre, renamed Paris La Défense Arena, and its 35,000 seats are available to handball players (but only in the final phase). A room that will have to be shared with the gymnastics which will occupy it during the first week. The rest of the gym program (trampoline, in particular) should be moved to Arena 2 (Porte de la Chapelle).

Swimming and water polo on the same site. In order to limit costs, the water polo tournament scheduled for La Courneuve will take place, as we announced in our editions of June 5, in Saint-Denis, on the swimming site. The competition pool will be dismantled after the Olympics, as will 2 warm-up pools to be relocated in Seine-Saint-Denis. A 50 m pool used for water polo and the diving pit (25 m) will remain as a legacy.

Volleyball and badminton are moving. The costs of setting up a temporary site in Dugny having been deemed too high, the volleyball will finally take place a handful of kilometers away, at Le Bourget. Domino effect, the badminton which was to take place there is transferred to Paris, probably to Arena 2 (Porte de la Chapelle).
