Boukhiam finished second in the 5th heat of the first round with a total of 9.76 pts, behind Brazilian Joao Chianca (10.07 pts), who advanced to the 3rd round. New Zealander Billy Stairmand finished in third place (5.53 pts).
While Boukhiam managed to pull through, the duo of Mohamed Abicha and Zouheir El Graoui, competing in beach volleyball, lost to the Brazilian tandem George Souto Maior and Andre Loyola in two sets (18-21, 10-21) during the first match of group D.
