OM-Frankfurt: at least five arrests on the eve of the match after an attempted clash

by time news

At least five people were arrested on Monday evening on the sidelines of an attempted clash between Marseille and German supporters in downtown Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), announced the Marseille police headquarters. The police intervened to prevent the supporters of the two camps from clashing directly.

No injuries or damage were to be deplored at 10:30 p.m., said La Provence. The arrests carried out were, for at least four of them, for carrying a prohibited weapon.

“Obviously I have a message. It’s always the same. I want it to be a football party, peaceful, in this superb stadium, with two great teams. We just want it to be a football party,” explained Eintracht Frankfurt coach Olivier Glasner earlier today.

Olympique de Marseille is due to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday evening in the Champions League. In anticipation of this meeting, the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters has consolidated security measures to avoid any overflow.
