“Dismay, revolt, disgust. » It was with these three strong words that the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra reacted this Monday morning, on the set of “Télématin”, to the events which took place Sunday evening ahead of the Ligue 1 match between Olympique Marseille (OM) and Olympique Lyonnais (OL). The Lyon coach was stoned on its way to the Stade Vélodrome, causing injuries to OL coach Fabio Grosso and one of his assistants Raffaele Longo. “I have a huge thought for the coach, for the team, for the assistant, for the supporters,” she said before her remarks.

Faced with events of such seriousness, the Minister of Sports calls for a “global and uncompromising response” in which all sporting stakeholders have a role to play: the Professional Football League (LFP), supporters’ associations, but also the clubs. “If it is established that supporters were involved (in the stoning of the bus) and that the roles and responsibilities make it possible to establish this in a very clear and irrefutable manner, the clubs cannot ignore that, the associations neither do fans, neither does the league,” she said.

“It is a global response: justice, maintaining order, dialogue within all sporting authorities which must all be held accountable,” continued Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, while calling for a “union to protect this sport that they (the perpetrators of the stoning) hate and that they want to destroy.”

Identify “the chain of responsibility”

The Minister of Sports asked that a “very precise identification of the chain of responsibility” be made. She wants a “rapid and firm response” from justice. “In terms of maintaining order, there was a police escort around this bus and this meeting had been well prepared with a dialogue to facilitate the movement of Lyon supporters (authorized to travel to Marseille for the first time since years),” she nevertheless defended herself.

“We need a global response in which the football league obviously plays its full part, in which the clubs and supporters are also made responsible,” she said. Amélie Oudéa-Castéra asked for a “systematic judicial ban on stadiums” during “such serious” events, “administrative bans” to keep away “as a preventative measure such troublemakers” and “commercial bans which fall under the responsibility clubs”.

Following the events of Sunday evening, the decision was made not to play the match between Marseille and Lyon. Some 65,000 people were in the stadium at the time. According to Gérald Darmanin, guest of BFMTV this Monday morning, five police officers were injured and nine people were arrested. “I think it is up to the club to manage their supporters, I hope that we will have justice and the longest possible prison sentences,” he also reacted.
