Muscat: A US citizen who was imprisoned in Iran was released after the intervention of Oman.
The release was made possible by the intervention of Oman at the behest of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, following the request of the US.
Baqar Namazi, an Iranian-American citizen who was freed from Tehran, arrived in Muscat. He will return to the US. In October 2015, he went to Tehran for the release of his son Siamak, an American-Iranian businessman who was detained.
However, both were imprisoned for 10 years on charges of espionage. Namazi was jailed in February 2016.
