Omar Miller comes to Zappa to redefine “performance food”

In the next two months, the interesting collaboration between Chef Omar Miller and Zappa will run throughout the country, as part of the Chef and Show festival, which takes place in the group’s clubs in recent years. what’s in plan? Performances by the leading artists in Israel, with whom you can enjoy a specially composed menu that will be prepared on the spot by Chef Omar Miller. And more in detail: Mark Eliyahu in Tel Aviv, Ninet in Beer Sheva, Dikla in Haifa, Church of the Wisdom in Herzliya, Guy Vihel in Beer Sheva and Red Band in Jerusalem – and you, with a spicy sausage taco, pickled onions and guacamole in one hand, and a storybook in the other.

The event started running already in 2018, as a series of concept events of intimate shows accompanied by food performed by well-known chefs in Israel (except for a short break imposed by the corona virus). Zappa is already known as a performance club that knows how to serve its audience a little more than nachos and edamame to the table, but the Chef and Show events are designed to take the matter a few steps further and provide both a culinary and cultural experience. “I created the dishes with light festival food in mind, the kind that is fun to eat alongside music – I just gave it an upgrade so that it deserves to be called a dish,” says Miller. Because who among us doesn’t fantasize about the sausage in the steaming bun at the end of the show, the one who complains about its misery but in the end also enjoys every bite. This time you will also be spared the line and for a similar price you will get here a real American grilled sausage (vegan or meat), mashed potatoes and fried onions, as well as tantalizing dishes such as a roast beef club sandwich and a corned beef hamburger and egg salad.

Until a very short time ago, Miller was one of the most talked about and well known chefs in the city. He was known as one who never stops reinventing himself and as an active participant in some crazy race to open more and more and more new places – from hamburgers, pizzas and toasts to restaurants such as Shulhan, Calypso and partnership in the Sheva banquet hall. But if you are a devout follower of his on Instagram or just updated on what’s going on in the Tel Aviv scene, you can notice that Miller closed his various businesses and left the world of restaurants – and Tel Aviv in general. “Since my children were born, my priorities changed and I decided that I choose with tweezers the places where I cook. I closed my businesses to devote time to my family and to what really makes me feel good, today I only do what allows me to live sanely and at the same time continue to be in the kitchen that I am so loving”. In the meantime, you can find Miller’s food documented as recipes on Instagram or on his blog, when he prepares it with his three cute little children, as part of cooking workshops he conducts, or in all kinds of collaborations like the one we have here – so this is a good and rare opportunity to eat from his hands, who that you missed

“I couldn’t refuse an event like this that combines food, culture and art with the artists I love the most in Israel, I was completely turned on by the idea,” says Miller, who will be present at each of the events and was an active partner in building the unique experience.

The Chef and Show Festival will start tomorrow with a performance by Mark Eliyahu at Zappa Tel Aviv, Derech Begin 44, Tuesday (13.9) 22:00 and will continue with performances by Ninet (Zappa Beer Sheva, 15.9), Dikla (Zappa Haifa, 22.9), Church of the Wisdom ( Zappa Herzliya, 23.9), Guy Vihal (Zappa Beer Sheva, 6.10) and Vard Band (Zappa Jerusalem, 27.10)
