Omicron 5 advances. According to the latest updates on the situation of Covid infections, the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant of Sars-CoV-2 accelerates its run in Italy. “Considering all the good quality genomic sequences deposited on the” ICoGen “platform in weeks 22, 23 and 24 of 2022”, reports the Higher Institute of Health as part of the weekly monitoring of the Covid-19 trend, the share Omicron 5 is equal to 34.4% in week 24 (the current one, data updated last night), against a proportion of 23.1% in week 23 and 16.2% in week 22.
Omicron 4 lags behind, while growing in turn: the share of BA.4 is 18.2% in week 24, against 11.4% in week 23 and 8.9% in week 22.
