Omicron 5 100% in Valle d’Aosta, 70% in Basilicata and 50% in Molise. The original variant, BA.1 only reaches 1%. Consistent decline in BA.2, which remains predominant but leaves room for new, more widespread lineages

In Italy the 7 June last there Omicron variant of the SarsCoV2 virus had a prevalence estimated at 100%with the BA.2 sub-variant predominant. But the other sub-variants run: BA.4 rising to 11.41% e BA.5 sale al 23,15%. In the previous survey (published on 13 May with data collected on 3 May) the two sub-variants were respectively 0.47% and 0.41%. These are the results of the rapid survey conducted by the Higher Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health together with the regional laboratories and the Bruno Kessler Foundation.

In some regions Omicron 5 it is the most widespread lineage: 100% in Valle d’Aosta, 70% in Basilicata and 50% in Molise. In Lazio above average at 32.5%, in Puglia at 32.6% and in Friuli Venezia Giulia at 31.1%. Currently, there is no evidence that infections caused by BA.4 and BA.5 are associated with an increased severity of clinical manifestations compared to those caused by BA.1 and BA.2, recalls the ISS which highlights how in the current scenario it is necessary to continue to monitor with great attention, in accordance with national and international recommendations and with ministerial indications, the spread of viral variants, and in particular those with greater transmissibility and with mutations related to potential evasion of the immune response.

The survey shows that Omicron 1 now below 1% of the total of Omicron variants identified. In this latest survey BA.2 represents 62.98% of the Omicron variants, which remains predominant, compared to 91.83% recorded in the previous survey.
