There has been a significant increase in the number of corona infections in the country.
This was stated by Dr. Channa de Silva, Specialist, Secretary, Institute of Respiratory and Pediatricians, Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo.
The doctor pointed out that the restrictions on the general public have been relaxed and that the crisis is due to longer vacations and longer trips.
He said the Omigron strain was spreading rapidly across the country and more and more people were being identified in various parts of the country on a daily basis.
He further pointed out that the main reason for this situation is that people are making unnecessary trips as the country is returning to normalcy.
He added that if the situation continues, the number of people infected with the Omicron virus will continue to rise.
Specialist Channa de Silva added that this could lead to Omigron becoming a highly contagious virus in the country.
