Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has said that eight more people in the state have been confirmed to have Omicron. Thiruvananthapuram 1, Kollam 1, Alappuzha 2, Ernakulam 2 and Thrissur 2 were the new Omicon cases confirmed. A foreigner (48) who arrived at Thiruvananthapuram airport on December 22 from Russia, a Kollam native (40) who arrived in Ernakulam from Namibia on December 16 (40), a Alappuzha native (28) who arrived in Ernakulam from Qatar on December 17 (40) and a girl (40) who arrived in Ernakulam from Qatar on December 18 (3); Omikron confirmed the deaths of 25-year-olds from Ernakulam, 18, from the UAE, 48-year-olds from Thrissur, who arrived in Ernakulam from Kenya on the 13th, and 71-year-olds from Thrissur, who are on the primary contact list. This brings the total number of Omicron cases in the state to 37.

The three-year-old came from the UK with her parents. The parents were negative on the Kovid check at the airport. They were in the home quarantine. Kovid confirmed the test after the child showed fever and other symptoms.

Omicron was confirmed in their samples sent to the Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology after Kovid became positive. They are being treated in hospitals. Their contact list is being prepared.

A 39-year-old Ernakulam native from the UK has been discharged from the hospital with the first reported omicron positive in the state. He was discharged following a negative test.
