Sixty-one of the 624 passengers on two planes, who arrived in the Netherlands from South Africa on November 26, were found to have a coronavirus as a result of laboratory tests. Of these, the omicron strain was confirmed in 13 people.

This was announced by the National Institute for Health and the Environment of the Netherlands. It is assumed that the number of infected with omicron on this plane will be higher, since some of the samples are still being examined.

At the moment, cases of infection with a new South African strain of coronavirus have been found in Denmark, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Czech Republic and probably France. Also confirmed cases of infection in Israel and Hong Kong. All those infected have been in southern Africa during the last week.

At the moment, it is not known how dangerous the omicron strain is, since in South Africa, where it was first discovered, less than 6% of the population are elderly, who are in one of the main risk groups for the severity of covid. Doctor from South Africa Angelica Cootzee said that mostly young people and children are sick, the symptoms are atypical, but mild.
