Due to the threat of Omigron virus, the surveillance operations at the airports in Tamil Nadu have been intensified for the 2nd day. Meanwhile, the fee for a rapid test to get quick results at airports has been reduced by 600 rupees.

Passengers arriving in Tamil Nadu from South Africa, China, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Israel, which are listed as endangered countries, are screened at airports. In an environment where they are not infected, they will be isolated at home for 7 days. Corona examination will be performed again on the 8th day.

Even if it is known to be negative, their health will be monitored for another 7 days. Thus they will be placed within the probationary period of 14 days. Apart from this, those coming to Tamil Nadu from other countries and other states are being checked at the airport. A unit has been set up at the airport to isolate those with signs of Omigran infection. Body temperature is checked for all passengers and self-information is collected.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the structures for the medical examination at the Madurai airport, Minister Subramaniam said the Rapid test was being carried out to ensure that foreigners could get their test results as soon as possible and the fee had been reduced from Rs 4,000 to Rs 3,600.

He added that the curfew was not necessary if precautionary measures were taken to prevent the spread of the Omigron virus, adding that corona prevention measures, including masks, personal breaks and vaccinations, must be adhered to. The minister also said that if foreign travelers are diagnosed with Omigran infection, a separate facility will be set up to treat them.
