Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Professor, Department of Molecular Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, said that there is a fear that the ‘Omigron’ virus strain identified in South Africa could infect Sri Lanka.
That is why he points out that steps have been taken to expedite genetic testing.
Meanwhile, only Dr. Delta virus strain has been identified in Sri Lanka so far, said Dr. Chandima Jeewandara.
