Omoda and Jaecoo are the new brands of the Chinese multinational Chery. Jaecoo debuted as independent brands at the 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Show, held in the Chinese megacity last April. There the Omoda 5 as well as the Jaecoo 7 and 9 were presented, all of them with SUV bodywork and a modern design.
Both brands will be incorporated into the growing catalog of Chinese vehicles that reach the Spanish market, in this case by Invicta.
The Omoda 5 is the brand’s first model created as a global vehicle aimed at the new generation of drivers with a modern, dynamic and energetic lifestyle that does not renounce elegance.
The design of the Omoda 5 is based on the concept of “Art in Motion” (art in motion). This is inspired by avant-garde art and develops the idea that the functional design of a car can be beautiful seen from the outside, but that beauty can also be felt and experienced behind the wheel.
A concept that is reflected in an exterior with its stylized grille, T-shaped daytime running lights, powerful led headlights, dynamic indicators, the original design of the matrix rear lights with 3D effect or the 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. In addition, the floating roof enhances the visual aspect of the car: an effect created by the black finish of the B and C pillars and the tinted rear windows. All of this together creates a truly dynamic fastback SUV body.
A guaranteed dynamism thanks to the turbocharged 1.6 TGDI petrol engine, with a maximum power of 197 HP and a torque of 290 Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. All this power leads the Omoda 5 to cover 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The automatic gearbox is seven-speed with double clutch and has three operating modes: Eco, Normal and Sport.
But in addition to being dynamic, the Omoda 5 is very safe. Among the standard driving aids it includes: adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, departure warning and lane keeping, as well as automatic switching between dipped beam and main beam. It also incorporates Isofix anchorages for the child restraint system, front and side airbags (front and rear) as well as curtains for the two rows of seats.
With dimensions of 4.4 meters long, 1.83 wide and 1.58 high, the Omoda 5 offers a truly comfortable interior. It is accessed without having to take the smart key out of your pocket, since the vehicle detects the driver’s presence and allows him to open the door.
Its electrically adjustable sports front seats have a backrest with integrated headrest, are upholstered in high-quality perforated eco-leather, heated and ventilated.
The dual-zone intelligent climate control achieves a comfortable environment and also provides a high level of purification of the air circulating inside the passenger compartment. On the dashboard we find two double screens of 10.25 inches each and high resolution. One of them for the instrumentation and the other to manage an infotainment system with a Sony equipment with high-quality acoustics and compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, the technological atmosphere in the interior is completed by multi-coloured ambient lighting, a large panoramic roof and a wireless charger for the mobile phone.
The Omoda 5 will soon go on sale in Spain. Its launch price, including promotional offers and financing, is 29,995 euros.
