– It may be that the rhododendron path I have created can remain for several generations. It may also be that some people come and say: “Let’s do something new!” That flexibility must be there, says Princess Alexandra. Photo: Mads Claus Rasmussen/Ritzau Scanpix

It has dawned on Princess Alexandra how significant it really was that her grandmother, Queen Ingrid, took her by the hand and walked with her in the garden. The princess is current with a garden book that tells about the gardens at Egeskov and the work with them, but is also a story about how past and present meet unexpectedly when, for example, you come across a package of letters.

Princess Alexandras is fond of roses. Her delight in them dates back to her childhood home, where her mother always placed a vase with a rose, also named Alexandra, on her table when she came home from boarding school. She has since tried to find the variety again, but without success. Photo: Mads Claus Rasmussen/Ritzau Scanpix

It is a wonderful experience to have, says Princess Alexandra. Photo: Mads Claus Rasmussen/Ritzau Scanpix

A garden should never stand still, Princess Alexandra believes: – Of course we also think that there must be something new for the visitors to look at. It is not always because of them when we do something new, but it is important that you can come here and say: “What has happened this year?” Photo: Mads Claus Rasmussen/Ritzau Scanpix
