The 2024/25 academic year of public education and vocational training was opened in Dunakeszin in a ceremonial setting by the Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó, the Minister of Justice Bence Tuzson and the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior (BM) Bence Rétvári.
Balázs Hankó emphasized: vocational training, which has been renewed in recent years, now provides a profession, which in turn gives knowledge, understanding and identity. “Our goal is that the renewed vocational training, the Hungarian model, serves the Hungarianness of the entire Carpathian basin,” he declared.
Among other things, the minister spoke about the fact that the number of people accepted from vocational training to higher education has doubled in three years.
He said that vocational training was renewed in close cooperation with the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK) and achieved European success, but the goal is to make vocational training a “world champion”.
Balázs Hankó touched on the fact that system-level digitization development was realized in the renewal, and the students are also partners in vocational training, as they are mature, learn quickly, love and appreciate work.
“We also want to strengthen this value creation and their partnership by supporting their start of life and career plans, as we believe that the success of young people is the success of the nation,” he added.
Bence Rétvári said that the government’s goal is for Hungarian students to be world-class even in a very tough international competition. Among this year’s events, he highlighted that Hungarian students have won a total of 32 medals at the Student Science Olympiads. In connection with the results of the PISA measurements, however, he drew attention to the fact that only 1-2 European countries are among the first. The school system in Hungary must train students who will stand their ground in 20 years’ time – quoted State Secretary Kuno Klebelsberg, pointing out that there will be very tough competition in the next 20 years.
The Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior also reminded that the basis of the school system, the education system, is a good teacher, which is why the wage increase that has been launched in recent years is important, according to which teachers’ wages will increase by more than 32 percent this year and by 21 percent next year. wages. Taking into account the previous two years, this means that teachers’ wages will increase by more than 93 percent in four years.
The Secretary of State also spoke about the use of mobile phones at school, in connection with which he stated that several international studies indicated that the unlimited use of mobile phones at school worsens the performance of students. He recalled that the answer to a question sent to teachers and school principals about a year and a half ago was that the unrestricted use of mobile phones makes the work of teachers difficult and distracts the attention of students. That is why the government decided that starting this year, mobile phones can be used only when they help with education.
He added: “of course it can be used to communicate with parents if this is necessary for some urgent reason, and of course these mobile phones can be used before and after school hours.”
Bence Rétvári also announced that they will continue with school digitalization, in addition to the 450,000 laptops, more than 100,000 new laptops will be made available to students this year.
Justice Minister Bence Tuzson, the region’s Fidesz member of parliament, said that the students and teachers have to fill the Dunakeszi Student Quarter, which has just been handed over to the school, and establish its good reputation, which is always a difficult task for a new school.
In connection with the development, he stated that the building, Hungary’s largest secondary school investment, would stand its ground anywhere in the world, and is among the best, both in terms of quality and equipment.
László Parragh, the president of MKIK, reminded that the coordination, cooperation and shared value creation of different educational levels are decisive for a country.
He emphasized: there can be no successful economy without successful education. “Education forms the basis of the human resource without which an economy cannot function,” he said. He also spoke about the fact that preparation for the creation of an entrepreneur is considered essential in the case of vocational training.
At the ceremony, a short film showing the values and traditions of the city spanning several decades was shown, in which Mayor Csaba Dióssi – with the help of excellently composed film frames – explained the construction of the Dunakeszi Student Quarter, the largest educational center in the country, which is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, classrooms, workshops, sports fields, a swimming pool, community with its spaces in the complex that houses two secondary schools, it provides European-standard conditions for 1,500 students and their teachers.
The uplifting experience of the opening of the national academic year was the singing of the Dunakeszi song in the high-quality performance of the Dunakeszi Student Choir and the blood-stirring production of the Farkas Ferenc AMI folk dancers.
