At September 28if no objections are raised in the next 10 working days, the binding financial offers of the prospective buyers of 67% of the Volos Port Organization.
Its board of directors TAIPED in today’s meeting it is expected to approve the participation of the four investment schemes that submitted bids in the relevant tender.
Information indicates that all four candidates are qualified, as the files with the legalizing, technical and other documents (File A) were found in accordance with the provisions of the notice. These are offers from Thessaloniki Port Organization –claims the port in order to protect it from potential future competition, but also to develop it further–, by an investment scheme of the Greek transport and logistics company Goldair, which has secured financial support from the American development bank DFS, a joint venture of Israel Shipyards with Steelworks of Greece – interests of the Manesis group – and, finally, from the Maltese company for the management of small port terminals Mariner Capital, interests of the Healy family.
After today’s meeting, the time during which there is a right of objection for the candidates begins. It is recalled that they chose to withdraw from the tender, not submitting binding financial offers, GEK TERNAthe Bulgarian Advance Properties, interests of the Domuchiev shipbuilding family, and the Qatari Q Terminals, which is the state-owned arm of Qatar’s imports and exports.
The Volos Port Authority – OLB S.A. – has the right to use and exploit the port of Volos, the marine facilities of the fishing shelter located at the eastern end of the city’s seafront, the port facilities of Almyros and Agria. The concession agreement has a duration of 60 years from its signature and expires in 2062. The port of Volos has both an important military and energy role, as evidenced by the previous consultations, in order for the Greek Armed Forces to keep part of the land zone for their own use , but also the expressed interest in developing a liquefied natural gas regasification station in the area.
The port’s main activities today include cargo and container, steel and scrap, dry bulk and liquid cargo services, and passenger services, including ferry lines to the Sporades, as well as cruise operations.
