Drama on the highway, this Sunday. A 43-year-old man was killed in the morning while driving on the A10 near Saint-Martin-de-Bréthencourt, a town located in the south of Yvelines, on the edge of Essonne. For some unknown reason, he lost control of the utility vehicle he was driving. The car rolled over several times.
The victim was taken care of in absolute urgency by the rescuers. But the man died shortly after their arrival. The four people accompanying him were also injured and were transported to several hospitals in the Paris region. Their days are not in danger. It is not yet known if the victims, of Portuguese origin, belong to the same family.
Deadly weekend on the Yvelines highways
Nineteen firefighters as well as doctors from the Rambouillet Samu were mobilized on this intervention which lasted several hours. The right lane and the hard shoulder were neutralized during the operation which caused severe slowdowns in the direction of Paris.
Even if the causes of the accident are not yet known, road safety reminds that it is advisable to take breaks every two hours in the car. You should also not hesitate to stop when the first signs of drowsiness occur: itchy eyes, loss of attention, diminished reflexes… According to Road Safety, drowsiness at the wheel is the leading cause of death on the motorway.
The weekend has already been marked by a fatal accident in the Yvelines. Friday, on the A13, a bus driver died in a pileup involving a truck and several cars.
