The Derna Security Directorate, in the Ministry of Interior of the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives, called on all citizens in the municipality and its neighboring areas, “to exercise caution and beware of the region being exposed to weather fluctuations that are likely to occur early next week.”aStarting September 8, 2024.
The Directorate called on all citizens of the municipality and residents of nearby areas to “stay away from dams and valleys in anticipation of any emergency and as a precautionary measure so that they are not exposed to the risk of torrents and floods in the area.”
The Directorate directed, “to take the warning seriously, not to ignore it, and to adhere to the guidelines and instructions of the security and service agencies in the city, which aim to preserve the safety of citizens.”
It is noteworthy that the forecasts of weather fluctuations coincided with the first anniversary of the collapse of the Wadi Derna dams and the resulting devastating floods that swept through the city of Derna and all areas of the Green Mountain, resulting in huge losses of life and property.
