The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, said that the Derna flood left an unhealed wound, and its effects still hurt hearts, according to his expression.

Al-Dabaiba added in a tweet on the first anniversary of the Derna tragedy that the spirit of steadfastness and brotherhood shown by Derna and all of Libya is a living testimony to the strength of this people, their panic, and the solidity of their structure despite all attempts at fragmentation, according to him.

Dbeibah praised the “tremendous” efforts made in the first hours of the disaster, and the response of national rescue teams, both civilians and military, “with all speed and dedication” to save lives and help those affected amid extremely difficult circumstances.

Al-Dabaiba added that the teams of the electricity and telecommunications companies were able, within a few days, to reactivate the vital infrastructure of the energy and telecommunications sectors that were completely damaged, praising the “pivotal role” of public services and water companies in removing the effects of the destruction and preparing the city to receive aid and relief.

Dabaiba also referred to the contributions of sisterly and friendly countries, which rushed to provide technical and logistical support and rescue teams, thus supporting the Libyan people in one of their most difficult moments.

Dabaiba said that the integrated response embodied national cohesion in the face of the Derna disaster, so that despite the ordeal, those efforts remain a shining mark in our memory, a witness to what can be achieved with the spirit of solidarity and cooperation, according to his description.
