In most cases, it is still not safe to restore the electricity supply due to the increased water level – “Sadales tīkls” has contacted these customers, explaining the situation, and continues to be in contact with the managers of these properties in order to restore the electricity supply when the danger is eliminated.
For some customers, the restoration of electricity supply is still hampered by the large amount of trees that have broken and fallen on both roads and power lines.
Representatives of the “Distribution Network” explain that the most difficult situation is in Jūrmala, where there is an extremely large number of felled trees. Only after harvesting the trees will it be possible to start repairing the electrical network.
On Thursday, 112 operational work crews, or about 300 “Distribution Network” specialists and contractors, continue to work in these areas.
From the beginning of the storm until Thursday morning, “Sadales tīkls” has prevented a total of 1,017 electrical network failures, of which 303 were in the medium voltage network and 714 were in the low voltage network.
On Monday, July 29, at the peak of the storm, the number of “Sadales netas” customers who were left without electricity reached almost 50,000. On the evening of Tuesday, July 30, the electricity supply was interrupted for 3,000 “Sadales netas” customers, and on the morning of Wednesday, July 31 – about 2,500 .
It has already been reported that an active cyclone crossed Latvia on the evening of Sunday, July 28 and Monday, July 29, bringing extremely heavy, long-lasting rain and strong gusts of wind that broke trees and damaged power lines.
“Sadales tīkls” is an electricity network maintainer and developer in Latvia, part of the state-owned “Latvenergo” concern. The company provides operation, renovation and planned development of distribution networks, monitoring of electricity use, loss reduction measures and electricity accounting, as well as creates new connections.
