“This is a large-scale attack to paralyze the high-speed train network,” French state rail company SNCF told AFP, adding that many services would not run beyond Friday but would have to be canceled “for at least the entire weekend while repairs are carried out.”

Acts of sabotage took place last night.

Interrupted high-speed train traffic on the Atlantic, Northern and Eastern lines, SNFC informed. Train services with Belgium and Eurostar trains to Great Britain via the Channel Tunnel are affected.

However, the traffic on the south-eastern line has not been disturbed, as the act of sabotage has been prevented.

According to information provided by the SNFC, the travel plans of about 800,000 people have been disrupted.

A law enforcement source told AFP it was clear there had been coordinated acts of sabotage.

It has already been reported that the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics will take place in Paris on Friday evening.
