The number of sports in which Azerbaijan will be represented at the Summer Olympic Games has reached 20.
İdman.biz reports that our country, which will take part in the most prestigious multi-sports competition of the quadrennial for the eighth time in the history of independence, will be represented in basketball for the first time in Paris 2024.
At the previous 7 similar competitions, Azerbaijan was represented in 19 different types, not counting the types of gymnastics (artistic, artistic and trampoline), wrestling (freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s) and shooting (skeet and bullet) separately. Basketball, which will be our first team sport, is in 20th place on this list. If we consider the different areas of the three sports mentioned separately, then this number reaches 25.
“Big Six”
Azerbaijan has been represented at all previous Olympic Games in 6 sports. In four of them, licenses for Paris have already been won. For the 8th time at the Olympics we will be represented in boxing, wrestling, shooting and athletics. We were also represented in judo and swimming in seven Olympics. There is no doubt that we will be represented in the French capital in these sports.
Types of the XXI century
Licenses for Paris 2024 were won in two sports, which is the sixth such event in a row. Only in the last century, in 1996 and 2000, were we not represented in these forms. Such developing sports in the 21st century are gymnastics and taekwondo.

We were represented in varying numbers in other sports when Azerbaijan sent athletes to the Olympic Games. In weightlifting and fencing, this number is 5. If our athletes missed the last two Olympics, then the musketeers went to multi-sport competitions with breaks. In Paris, the series of our cyclists who participated in the last three tournaments will be interrupted. If for our team, which is going to two Olympics in five sports, equestrianism and diving have almost become a thing of history, then we can count on canoe sprint and rowing. And triathlon can give our country the joy of the Olympic Games for the third time in a row. In sports such as archery, karate and badminton, where we have only one such participation, only a representative of the latter will most likely go to France.
