Bogotá, DC, October 10, 2024. In light of the growing demands for mental health and the psychosocial problems that exist in Colombia, the National Ministry of Education presents the ‘Mentally Powerful Together’ campaign.
A strategy that promotes mental health and prevents bullying through two characters: ‘Grandiosa’ and ‘Antiaacoso’, who, with their stories, will reach educational establishments to provide the necessary tools and resources that encourage the creation of safe and protective environments, as well as healthy lifestyles that encourage self-care and caring for others.
These guidelines are a guide for educational institutions and are based on pedagogical, intercultural and linguistic tools to reduce situations of exclusion, promote adaptation processes and increase the access and persistence of students. It is important to point out, however, that this effort requires inter-institutional and interdisciplinary support, as well as the establishment of cooperation links and support networks at a personal, family and social level, which have a positive impact on the welfare of our children and our young people. . and in the development of their individual and collective capacities.
In the case of pre-school, primary and secondary education, the ‘Anti-Bullying’ character will promote the National System for School Coexistence and Training for Human Rights, Sexuality Education and Prevention and Mitigation of School Violence; an initiative that helps mitigate risks and manage situations that affect school coexistence, such as harassment or bullying.

To date, the SIUCE has registered 16,123 users on the platform, including educational institutions and Certified Territorial Entities, among others: in which 24,790 cases have been reported.
On the other hand, for higher education, ‘Grandiosa’ will inform the platform.”Wellness in Your Mind“, which offers resources and actions to prevent and manage mental health problems in the university community. Among its contents, the training route on emotional first aid stands out, which provides early care strategies for crisis situations. In addition, includes resources for social help -career orientation and tools to strengthen empathy, and to educate, prevent and reduce the harm of psychoactive substance use.
In 2023, within the framework of the agreement signed between the Grancolombiano Polytechnic and the Ministry of Education, the Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Disability for the Colombian Higher Education System were published. This document was a key reference for higher education institutions (HEIs) in mental health care.
As part of the socialization strategy of these guidelines, regional meetings were held in which 124 educational institutions participated, and an in-depth diagnosis was made of the state of mental health of the country’s young people. This diagnosis showed that the five most prevalent problems were anxiety and stress (54.5%), depression (46.4%), use of psychoactive substances (17.9%), suicidal ideation (17.9%) and mood changes (17.0%). .
To face these problems, the higher education institutions have developed a number of activities to mitigate these risks, among them is psychosocial support with a percentage of 41.3%, followed by workshops and/or mental health campaigns (35, 3%) , and activities developed by the welfare office (24.3%).
The Ministry of National Education, through these tools, resources and the ‘Mentally Powerful Together’ campaign, reaffirms its commitment to guarantee the well-being and safety of students in all educational institutions in the country, promoting and consolidating culture of mental health and prevention of bullying.
