Carnival 2023 once again served as a stage for attacks on the Christian faith under the pretext of an alleged “artistic manifestation”. The parades of samba schools in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, such as Gaviões da Fiel, exemplify this reality that has become common in Brazil.
With the aim of defending religious plurality, Gaviões da Fiel brought as its theme this year the declaration “In the Name of the Father, of the Sons, of the Spirits and of the Saints”, suggesting that, contrary to what the Christian faith teaches, there are many “ saints” and worshipable “spirits”.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Acadêmicos do Salgueiro school also provoked criticism, after presenting distorted content regarding what the Bible teaches about sin, all in the name of a vision whose objective would be to preach against prejudice.
Repudiation
As for Gaviões’ distorted reference to the holy trinity, gospel singer Sarah Farias even issued a note of repudiation against the school, saying that the association mocked the Christian faith.
“My total repudiation of the Gaviões da Fiel samba school that chose as the theme for this year’s plot: In the Name of the Father, the Sons, the Spirits and the Saints”, she says in a text published on her profile on social networks.
Unlike what she preached to Gaviões in her parade, the singer recalled that the Christian faith does not admit worship of other gods or entities, saints, etc., except exclusively the person of Jesus Christ.
