Less than a month after its last departure from the National Electric System (SEN), the largest thermoelectric plant in Cuba, the “Antonio Guiteras”, announced that it will stop its operation again for a few days to make some “corrections.”

After unit 1 of the Felton, in Holguín, which is still under repair, is connected to the SEN, the Guiteras will go out of circulation in a “scheduled stop”, which should not last more than 72 hours, but “will depend on the situation of the SEN”, according to engineer Román Pérez Castañeda, technical director of the Matanzas plant.

The idea, according to the manager, is to ensure that the power plant can operate without problems at the end of this year and the beginning of next.

Capital maintenance of the plant is also planned for October 2024, with a million-dollar investment and deep intervention in the boiler and other components.

The projection is that the plant can generate about 280 megawatts with low fuel consumption, over a period of 90 consecutive days.

Meanwhile, Cubans, apparently, will continue to suffer blackouts in 2024. Well, the outlook does not look hopeful. In fact, right now, unit 1 of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit 3 of the CTE Rente and unit 2 of the CTE Felton are out of service due to a breakdown.

In addition, unit 5 of the CTE Mariel, the 3 units of Energas Varadero and unit 1 of the CTE Felton are registered in maintenance. And 31 plants are not operating due to lack of fuel and there are another 15 Cuban plants with low liquid coverage.
