Cancer Patients Protesting Move of Oncology Department
Cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Carate Brianza hospital are expressing worry and staging protests. Effective September 15th, approximately 100 patients will be required to travel to Vimercate or Desio for visits, check-ups, and therapies. This decision was announced by hospital management during a recent meeting.
Patients voice concerns
Many patients have expressed their dissatisfaction with the move, citing the significant inconvenience it poses. They argue that for cancer patients, who are already facing immense physical and emotional challenges, the added travel burden will be detrimental.
Some patients have even suggested that the move could be a precursor to a permanent transfer of the Oncology department. Concerns regarding the lack of sensitivity and responsibility displayed by the hospital management towards patients are also prevalent.
Hospital management responds
The hospital’s Strategic Management has attempted to reassure patients, stating that the move is a temporary measure necessary for facility improvements. They claim to have communicated the decision in advance and are committed to addressing individual patient needs.
Local authorities involved
The mayor of Carate Brianza, Luca Vegan, has intervened in the matter, meeting with hospital management to discuss the concerns of affected patients.
