TRIBUNE – In full government reflection on rurality and medical demography, the former Minister of Health Jean-François Mattei proposes to return to an old organization that has proven itself.

The current lack of doctors, especially general practitioners, constitutes a severe threat to the proper care of patients, since 11% of them do not have access to a general practitioner, according to a 2022 Senate report. This deficit is critical in rural areas. A ministerial reflection is underway and several bills (PPL Valletoux, PPL Rist, etc.) address the subject with different approaches. Telemedicine is a useful measure but cannot replace the essential “singular conference” between the patient and his doctor. The abolition of the numerus clausus in 2019 will only have an effect on increasing the number of doctors in about ten years. The continuation of their activity by retired doctors is valuable but remains uncertain.
