One dead and 11 injured in fireworks explosion

A van carrying fireworks for religious festivities⁣ exploded in Tepetlixpa, State of Mexico, leaving one dead and 13 injured, as well as material damage in the Buenavista neighborhood.

The explosion occurred on Guerrero Street, damaging vehicles and commercial ⁤premises with broken glass.

Initial reports suggest the explosion occurred while workers‌ were manipulating a large number of rockets for the religious celebration, which had been suspended at the time of publication.

Emergency services, including‌ Civil Defense and municipal paramedics, responded to the scene following‌ a 911 call. Paramedics confirmed the death and‌ provided first aid⁢ to‍ the injured.

Some patients, due to burns, were transported by helicopter to specialized clinics.

Security forces cordoned off ‍the area,⁢ while the Attorney General’s ‍Office ​of‌ the State of Mexico’s forensic team conducted investigations and removed the body, which will be transferred to the Institute of Forensic Services.

PREVENTIVE ACTIONS

To prevent future incidents involving fireworks, the Government of Guerrero​ has implemented measures to control the​ purchase, sale, distribution, storage, and handling of pyrotechnic articles.

The governor expressed concern following two similar incidents in Cuajinicuilapa and⁤ Tlapa de Comonfort,⁣ and​ has instructed officials⁤ to strengthen preventive measures and raise public awareness about ‍the dangers ⁢of improper firework use.
