A woman died and several other people, including two firefighters, were injured in a fire on Saturday in an apartment building in L’Île-Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), we learned from the help, from a police source and from the mayor of this city located north of Paris.
A major rescue and fire-fighting system was deployed, mobilizing 195 firefighters supported by 60 devices, said the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis.
The deceased is “a resident” of L’Île-Saint-Denis, said the ecologist mayor of the town, Mohamed Gnabaly, on his Facebook account.
The fire broke out shortly before 10 a.m. The fire started from the 9th floor of the building, which has 11, the Paris firefighters told AFP.
Two firefighters were hospitalized in “absolute emergency” but their “condition is stable”, said a spokesman for the firefighters. Eight residents of the building were slightly intoxicated, according to the same source.
The mayor announced that he had set up a reception center for evacuees at a gymnasium in the city. “We are at your service. The fire is still in progress, we must all remain mobilized”, estimated the elected official in his message to the attention of the inhabitants, posted at midday.
The prefecture has invited residents of the area not to open their windows.
