Moldovan authorities may ban the use of TikTok and Telegram if these platforms are used to manipulate the country’s election results.
As Day.Az reports with reference to NEWS.ru, this was stated by the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Grosu on TV8.
He noted that the European Union is actively discussing the need to regulate the operation of such platforms.
“If we detect a credible threat from the use of these services to interfere with the security of the country, whether from within or without, and if the platforms do not respond to our reasonable demands, we will be forced to take action. If these platforms do not respond to our requests, and this becomes a threat to the election results, the state is obliged to intervene,” Grosu said.
Previously, the European Commission launched an investigation into TikTok under the Digital Services Act. The social network is suspected of insufficient control of risks associated with interference in the presidential elections in Romania. If the suspicions are found to be justified, TikTok could be fined up to 6% of the company’s revenue under the Digital Services Act.
