jpnn.comJAKARTA – Good news comes from the western tip of Java Island, specifically at Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK).

A new individual Javan Rhinoceros calf (Rhinoceros sondaicus) was recorded on camera in the Ujung Kulon Peninsula area. It was recorded that a Javan Rhino calf was caught in a camera trap on March 4 2024 at 11:49 WIB.

The camera trap recorded the mother and calf of the Javan Rhinoceros which is thought to be a new calf.

Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) Satyawan Pudyatmoko expressed his joy at the discovery of the rhino calf.

He stated that his party will continue to monitor the development of the baby rhino just like other baby rhinos.

“Ahamdullilah, this is good news and proves that the Javan rhino in the world, which only exists in Ujung Kulon, can develop well and sustainably,” said Satyawan Pudyatmoko in a written statement, Saturday (6/4/2024).

The certainty of the existence of new Javan rhino calves is based on the results of the Javan Rhino Monitoring (MBJ) which was carried out in February-April 2024, and followed up with physical analysis from experts in identifying individual Javan Rhinos with members from partners and academics.

This success cannot be separated from the renewal of the method of installing camera traps using a systematic sampling (cluster) method.
