One million euros announced to welcome Ukrainian artists and “dissident Russians” to France

The Ministry of Culture has announced a plan to help Ukrainian artists. An envelope is also provided for the reception of art school students.

The Ministry of Culture announced on Saturday the establishment of a fund of one million euros to welcome Ukrainian artists and cultural professionals who would like it, a device also “open to dissident Russian artists”.

To this support fund is added “an envelope of 300,000 euros for the reception of students” in schools, art in particular, which are under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, specify the services of Roselyne Bachelot in a press release .

The artists will be helped, in Russian and Ukrainian, to orient themselves via a telephone platform. With their loved ones, they can be accommodated in three-month artist residencies.

Support for artistic creation

In addition to emergency reception, the funds must allow support for artistic creation, for example via research grants or aid for the dissemination of shows.

On Friday, about 10,000 Ukrainian refugees had arrived in France since the invasion of this country by Russia on February 24, according to the Ministry of the Interior. Roselyne Bachelot had already announced during the week that France would help Russian artists “forced into exile”.

“I asked for the cancellation or postponement of events organized by: one, official Russian cultural institutions; two, artists who have taken a clear position for Mr. Putin’s regime and that for a long time”, had– she also explained to AFP.
