Prosecutor Patricia Sánchez, who acts as the Specialized Coexistence Unit, charged Venancio Valentín Domínguez Morel, better known as “Lawyer Leopardo,” with causing common risks after firing shots into the air during an argument with neighbors in the Tacumbú neighborhood.

He commented that the 2nd Police Station was informed about the event that occurred in the early hours of Saturday. “In the context of a fight with neighbors, which allegedly began with an attempt to set fire to a vehicle that he supposedly ordered, the lawyer got into his vehicle and began firing shots into the air. He goes to his sister’s house, so the police ask for a search warrant. Then, they call me and tell me that he fled the scene through a ditch. Given that behavior of his, I order his arrest,” he said.

She noted that the lawyer then contacted her by telephone, announcing that he was going to appear, which he only did yesterday, Monday, before the Specialized Coexistence Unit of the Public Ministry. At that moment, he was detained and his investigatory statement hearing proceeded, in which he abstained.

Lawyer Leopardo fled to “treat” bleeding

The prosecutor said that while he was waiting for her, Domínguez clandestinely fled the headquarters to supposedly treat a bleeding leg. The procedure indicates that she should have reported it so that a medical inspection could be arranged, as Sánchez explained.

“He came yesterday and is going to the investigation, I had a meeting and I ask him to wait for me; Then he refrains from testifying and, when he arrived at the headquarters, he clandestinely escaped. Not even his lawyer noticed that he left. “He tells his lawyer that he went to a hospital because his leg was bleeding,” he said.

Given this, the prosecutor indicated that she requested the Court in charge to declare him in absentia and order his preventive detention.

Accumulation of elements against him

Subsequently, the lawyer contacted the prosecutor via telephone message to announce that he would appear, which was questioned by the agent because “litigation is not done by cell phone.”

Regarding the process, Sánchez commented that the complainant already gave a statement and that two neighbors provided images of what happened. He also highlighted that they have a wealth of elements.

Sánchez said that the expected penalty for the crime attributed to him is 1 to 5 years in prison, with the possibility of an alternative release from prison.

He added that, prior to his escape from the prosecutor’s office, he had offered Domínguez’s legal representative temporary releases from prison, if his client recognized the facts of which he was accused.

Leopard Lawyer: arrested and attacked

In November 2021, “lawyer Leopardo” had been prosecuted – and even went to prison – for possession of firearms for the exclusive use of the defense and security bodies of the State, production of common risks and resistance, after a complaint of carrying of heavy caliber weapons. Finally, in August 2022 he was dismissed from the case.

In August 2023, Domínguez was the protagonist of an attack against him, in which he received four gunshot wounds from unknown individuals in the Tacumbú neighborhood. Already in September, he had denounced that the Rotela clan wanted to kill him for blaming him for the arrest of one of its members.
