One of the most popular American rappers, Travis Scott, will try to forget the tragedy, whose shadow has fallen on his concerts in recent years, on the upcoming European tour. As part of it, he will also come to the Czech Republic for the first time. They will perform on July 18 in Prague’s O2 arena, Live Nation announced.
Tickets for a price of 1,690 crowns will be available from Ticketmaster and Ticketportal starting this Friday.
Scott’s name has been the most inflected in recent years in connection with the tragedy when ten people died in a stampede during his concert at the Astroworld festival in November 2021. It broke out shortly after the start of the event in Houston, USA. People flocked to the front of the auditorium where Scott was rapping with his guest Drake.
According to one of the later lawsuits filed against festival organizers, Scott and Drake incited the crowd and continued after the crowd got out of control and chaos ensued. The rappers defended themselves by canceling the concert as soon as they registered the first injured, and the rest of the festival was immediately cancelled.
According to the ČTK agency, ten people between the ages of nine and 27 died in the stampede. The official cause of death was suffocation, an AP expert likened the pressure created by the crowd to being crushed by a car. Around 300 more people were injured on the spot, 25 of them had to be treated by doctors in hospital.
In connection with the incident, the first lawsuits were filed in November 2021, one was filed by an injured participant directly against the rapper. He said that he was devastated by the events and that he would pay the funeral expenses and psychological counseling to the families of the deceased.

The case followed him until the summer of 2023, when a jury in the US state of Texas definitively refused to indict Scott in connection with the stampede.
“He never encouraged anyone to do anything that would lead to injury,” said his lawyer, who said the musician was relieved to receive the jury’s decision.
Thirty-three-year-old Scott subsequently tried to organize a concert at the Egyptian pyramids in Giza last July, but it was canceled two days before. “For production reasons, it turned out to be impossible to build a stage in the desert,” said the organizer, whose license was previously revoked by the local musicians’ union in connection with a flag promoting the LGBT movement at one of his other concerts.
However, Travis Scott completed other concerts in the USA this year without any problems, including performing at the Grammy Awards, where he combined his tracks My Eyes, I Know? and Fein. He edited the text of one of them to express his frustration at the fact that the judges of the most famous American music awards nominated him ten times, but did not award him even once.
He did not succeed that night either, his fourth studio album Utopia did not become the best rap album of the year. Travis Scott will present songs from it in Prague this year.
The musician and producer, who made his debut in 2013 and has sold almost 50 million records to date, has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart four times. In addition to a strong response in music, he is also involved in fashion, he has collaborated on more than twenty models of sports shoes with the brands Helmut Lang, Nike, Air Jordan or Dior.
