Around 5:55 p.m., a collision between a “VW Golf” and a “Mercedes Benz” car took place on the 15th kilometer of the A3 highway in Krimulda Parish, Sigulda County. In the road traffic accident, one person was killed and several persons were injured, who were taken to a medical institution with their injuries.
In the past 24 hours, 137 road traffic accidents were registered in Latvia, a total of 21 people were injured in 17 accidents, and in one, already mentioned, a person died.
As informed by the State Fire and Rescue Service, on Wednesday the help of firemen was needed at the scene of a road traffic accident in Ķoņu Parish, Valmiera County. There, the rescuers took the person out of the crashed car and took him to the Emergency Medical Service, and the battery terminals were disconnected from the car.
During the day, the VP recorded 418 administrative violations on Latvian roads, including 187 times drivers were caught exceeding the permitted driving speed, and twice – aggressive driving.
Four vehicle drivers were stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol on Wednesday, and all of them were heavily drunk, for which criminal liability is foreseen, according to the statistics compiled by the VP.
