Kochi ∙ Malayalee cricket lovers are waiting to know if Rohan S. Kunnummal will rise to fame. Rohan, a native of Kozhikode, who attracted attention with his brilliant performances in domestic cricket, is sure to be targeted by IPL teams in the IPL star auction to be held in Kochi today. The luck of Rohan S. Kunnummal and other players is evident after the BCCI has given permission to bid for more players who have shone in domestic cricket.

This is the first time that the star auction is being held in Kochi, a city that currently does not have an IPL franchise team. The 7-hour long bidding process will begin at 2.30 pm at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Bolgatti. BCCI and IPL officials and prominent members of the IPL teams will be the stars of the auction. The auction will be telecast live on Star Sports Channel, Viacom 18 and Jio Cinema.

∙ 206.5 crore rupees in the purse of the teams

10 IPL teams have already spent Rs 743.5 crore. 206.5 crore rupees are left with the teams for the mini auction in Kochi. Sunrisers Hyderabad have the heaviest purse; 42.25 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders are left with just Rs 7.05 crore.

Other teams and amount to spend in the auction: Mumbai Indians (20.55 crore), Chennai Super Kings (20.45), Delhi Capitals (19.45), Rajasthan Royals (13.2), Lucknow Super Giants (23.35), Bangalore Royal Challengers (8.75), Gujarat Titans (19.25) ), Punjab Kings (32.2).

∙ Players 405, Vacancy 87

IPL teams have retained 163 players. There is a list of 405 players for 87 vacancies including 30 foreign players. Out of which 273 are Indian players and 132 are foreigners. The base price of 11 players has been fixed at 1.5 crores. India’s Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal are among the 20 players whose base price has been set at Rs 1 crore. This time 21 players from Jammu and Kashmir are up for auction.

∙ 20 lakhs to Rohan

Rohan Kunnummal also has a base price of Rs 20 lakhs. From 11 first-class innings, Rohan scored four centuries and as many fifties. He scored 414 runs at an average of 103.50 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Strike Rate–131.84. Apart from Rohan Kunnummal, Mohammad Azharuddin, KM Asif, S. Mithun, Sachin Baby, Shaun Roger, Vishnu Vinod, Basil Thambi, Vysakh Chandran and Abdul Basit are also in the auction list as stars from the Kerala Cricket Association.
