Paralympic Athletics, Paris 2024: Oney Tapia Paralympic Champion in Discus Throw

The morning of Italian Athletics shines in gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. After the success of Rigivan Ganeshamoorthy and the silver medal for Assunta Legnante, the third medal in discus for the blue colors comes with Oney Tapia who becomes the paralympic champion in the F11 final.
A great result for the Italian thrower who already had a silver and a bronze in the specialty but had never reached the top of the podium: “I am really happy, in the shot put we suffered a lot but instead we supported each other and today we took the victory that we were missing. This is what sports are: you fall, you cry, you get back up, and in the end, you have fun. And today I had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I struggle a lot in the rain, so at the beginning of the competition I had a hard time, but thanks to the guidance of my assistant on the field, I found the right measurements, and the paralympic gold came, which was what was missing from my achievements. Now my cabinet has one gold, one silver, and two bronzes, and this fills me with joy. This victory is for my daughters who cried after the shot put competition, and now they can rejoice with me, but it is also to inspire all young people, who are fragile and feel down but can learn from results like this that in life, anything is possible, and they are the masters of their destiny.”
On the field of the Stade de France, the newly crowned paralympic champion recorded a throw of 41.92, which earned him gold ahead of Iran’s Hassan Bajoulvand, who took silver with 41.75, and Spain’s Alvaro del Amo Cano, who came third with 39.15.

An appointment is set for this evening for the final of Martina Caironi in the long jump T63, where the Azzurra will be seeking her third consecutive paralympic podium in the discipline. Also competing again is Giuliana Chiara Filippi, who, after breaking the ice in the long jump, will start in the heats of the 100m T64.
