Kolkata,

State Congress leader and MP Adir Ranjan Chowdhury has written a letter to President Ramnath Govind in connection with the violence that left eight people dead in West Bengal. In it he called for the implementation of Article 355 of the Constitution of India.

And he said,

I request the Government of the State of West Bengal to ensure that it is conducted in accordance with the Constitution of India.

On March 21, 2022, a fierce clash broke out between two groups belonging to the ruling party in the village of Boktui in Birbhum district. In it, Deputy Panchayat leader Badhu Sheikh was killed.

In retaliation, houses in the area were attacked and set on fire.

Twelve people, including women and children, were killed in the March 21, 2022 violence. All the victims are from the minority community.

Law and order in West Bengal is deteriorating. There have been 26 political assassinations in the past month alone. The state is gripped by fear and violence.

I raised this serious issue in Parliament yesterday to draw the nation’s attention to the disruption of the constitutional machinery in the state.

In view of the law and order situation in West Bengal, I urge you to use Article 355 of the Constitution to ensure that the Government of West Bengal is governed in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

Thus he stated in the letter.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata High Court has voluntarily filed a case today in connection with the Beerboom violence. It is noteworthy that the ICC today directed the West Bengal state government to ensure that witnesses are protected, CCTV cameras are installed in the area and evidence is protected.
