Administrative notice of amendments to price indication system implementation guidelines
Obligation of more than 10 trillion won per year… Expanded to 114 items
In order to deliver accurate price information to consumers, the ‘unit price display system’, which is currently mandatory for large supermarkets, will be expanded to include large-scale online shopping malls.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 3rd that it is giving an administrative notice of a revision to the ‘Price Labeling System Implementation Guidelines’ containing this content.
Previously, the government announced a unit price display system at the end of last year as part of a measure against ‘shrinkflation’, which is a trick of raising prices by reducing capacity while keeping the price of the product the same. Currently, it is mandatory at large supermarkets, but online shopping malls have implemented it voluntarily.
According to the amendment, from now on, large-scale online shopping malls with an annual transaction amount exceeding 10 trillion won will be required to display unit prices. However, considering the need for system maintenance for merchants in online shopping malls, a one-year grace period will be provided.
Recently, as the number of single-person households increases, the purchase of instant food and pet-related products is increasing. Reflecting this trend, the items with unit prices will also be expanded and reorganized from 84 to 114 items. The item expansion will be implemented immediately after the amendment is announced.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to collect opinions until the 23rd. Related amendments can be viewed on the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy website, and opinions can be submitted to the Distribution and Logistics Department of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
