That the brave defenders of Ukraine who returned from the front and from captivity will hug their loved ones”, said I. Šimonytė.
She also said that it is no less important that everyone, both those who committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine, and those who gave barbaric orders, receive sentences from the international tribunal, the Government Press Service reported.
“Only a victory for Ukraine and an international tribunal will bring a just and lasting peace to Ukraine and our common home, Europe.” Lithuania is and will be with Ukraine every step of the way to this goal. We are doing and will continue to do everything to speed up your victory as much as possible”, the Prime Minister emphasized at the end of her speech.
During her working visit to Kyiv, the Prime Minister participated in the official celebration of Independence Day and addressed the crowd at Sofia Square in Kyiv.
In her welcome speech, the Head of the Government of Lithuania thanked the people of Ukraine for heroically defending not only their land and statehood, but also Lithuania, Europe and the freedom and values of the entire democratic world. She wished the unbreakable Ukrainian nation faith, endurance and victory.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence, laying flowers at the memorial dedicated to the victims of Russia’s more than a decade-long war against Ukraine.
