Only 24 percent of respondents in a survey spoke out against a general speed limit on German autobahns. However, there are different ideas about the height of the limit.
According to a survey, just under every fourth inhabitant in Germany rejects a general speed limit on motorways in the Federal Republic in general.
In a survey commissioned by the vehicle portal Mobile.de, 24 percent of respondents spoke out against a general speed limit. On the other hand, around 69 percent could warm up for a speed limit – albeit with different ideas about the height of the limit.
Specifically, when asked what general maximum speed should apply on motorways, 1 percent of those surveyed said they would be less than 100 kilometers per hour. 6 percent called for 100 kilometers per hour and 15 percent for 120. A maximum speed of 130 kilometers per hour was chosen by 26 percent, 8 percent for 140 and 9 percent for 160 kilometers per hour. 3 percent wanted a speed limit of more than 160 kilometers per hour.
Women tended to warm up to speed limits more often and chose lower top speeds than men. Only 18 percent of the female respondents fundamentally rejected the concept. For men it was 31.
The survey was conducted by YouGov. 2019 people took part, including 1558 drivers. (dpa)
