Most recently, Ons Jabeur had to cancel the US Open due to injury. Now the tennis star has announced that he will not play at all this year.

Due to a long-term shoulder injury, Tunisian star player Ons Jabeur has announced her tennis season is over early. The three-time finalist of a Grand Slam tournament announced her decision on her social media channels. At the same time, the 30-year-old announced her return to the WTA Tour in January at the first tournaments of the new season in Australia.

“This year has been very tough for me and as athletes we know that recovery is part of the journey,” Jabeur wrote on X, among other things. “Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I have made the difficult decision to leave the tennis court for the remainder of the season.”

Jabeur had already decided not to take part in the US Open in New York due to her shoulder problems. The former world number two played her last match to date at the WTA tournament in Toronto in early August in preparation for New York.

She now wants to use the time without competitions for other things. “While I take time to heal, I will devote myself to charity and make sure we make a real difference in the world.” Jabeur thanked her fans for their support. She can hardly wait to “come back stronger.” And continued: “I’ll see you on the court in Australia in 2025.”

Under the post on X, numerous fans sent her well-wishes. “You are universally loved. Please take care of yourself and take all the time you need to heal,” wrote one follower. Another commented: “Speedy recovery to my favorite player.”
