SÃO PAULO (Reuters) – The National Electric System Operator (ONS) raised its forecast for the national energy load in December, now estimating growth of 11.1% compared to the same month in 2022, compared to 9.5% predicted a week ago, according to a bulletin released this Friday.

The agency made an important adjustment to its estimate of rainfall that will reach hydroelectric plant reservoirs in the South, now predicting inflows equivalent to 231% of the historical average in December, compared to 187% expected a week ago.

For the other subsystems, rainfall projections were reduced to 77% of the historical average in the Southeast/Mid-West (compared to 79% in the previous week), 22% in the Northeast (compared to 27%) and 50% in the North (compared to 58 %).

The national operator of the Brazilian electrical system also estimated that the hydroelectric reservoirs in the Southeast/Central-West will reach 64.6% of capacity at the end of this month, slightly above the 64.1% predicted a week ago.
