Onsu Station Area Poised for Growth as Seoul Expansion Projects Accelerate
A confluence of infrastructure investments and urban redevelopment is transforming the Onsu Station area into a highly sought-after location for both residential and commercial development.
The area surrounding Onsu Station, a key transportation hub served by Lines 1 and 7, is rapidly gaining prominence in the Seoul real estate market. Driven by ambitious revitalization projects and significant expansions to the metropolitan transportation network, the region is attracting substantial investment and developer interest. These developments are expected to dramatically increase property values and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Gateway to the Southwest: The Onsu Station Area Plan
At the heart of this transformation is the ‘District Unit Plan for the Onsu Station Area,’ a comprehensive urban management initiative designed to establish the area as a crucial gateway to the southwestern metropolitan region. The plan focuses on reconnecting communities previously divided by railway lines and revitalizing the station area through strategic land reorganization. Major bases are being designated as special planning areas to maximize land use efficiency, while phased improvements are underway to enhance the residential environment.
Rugby Stadium Redevelopment to Create a Mixed-Use Landmark
A cornerstone of the revitalization effort is the ‘Rugby Stadium Special Planning Zone.’ This project envisions transforming the existing stadium site into a vibrant, mixed-use landmark. Plans call for approximately 2,000 new housing units – a mix of apartments and officetels – alongside public rental facilities, educational and research institutions, and cultural spaces, all centered around a pedestrian-friendly plaza near Onsu Station.
Transportation Network Expansion to Enhance Connectivity
Addressing existing traffic concerns, significant improvements to the transportation infrastructure are planned. The GTX-B line, currently under development at Bucheon Sports Complex Station (two stops from Onsu Station), is slated for completion by 2031, and plans for the GTX-D line are also progressing rapidly.
Furthermore, the southwestern metropolitan railway – integrating the 2nd Gyeongin Line, Singuro Line, and Sincheon Sillim Line – is being revived with private investment, targeting a 2030 construction start and a 2036 completion date. This new line will originate in Cheonghak, Incheon, and branch towards Seoul, with one route passing directly through Okgil and Onsu Station in Bucheon, connecting to Mokdong. The other branch will serve Gwangmyeong River, Geumcheon, and Sillim. “The area around Onsu Station has an excellent location in the Seoul living area, bordering Seoul, and its future value is becoming more prominent as large-scale development and favorable factors of the metropolitan transportation network come together,” stated a senior official. “As a result, the interest of the demand class in the real estate market is also focused.”
Ssangyong The Platinum Onsu Station: A New Benchmark for Urban Living
Capitalizing on these developments, Ssangyong Engineering & Construction is launching ‘Ssangyong The Platinum Onsu Station’ in February. The complex, arising from the redevelopment of the Goean 3D district in Bucheon, will comprise 759 units across 35 floors, with 230 units available for general sale, ranging in size from 59 to 84 square meters.
The complex’s prime location, within walking distance of Onsu Station, provides convenient access to Seoul’s core business districts – Gasan Digital Complex (10 minutes), Yeouido (20 minutes), Seoul Station (30 minutes), and Gangnam (30 minutes). Beyond connectivity, the development prioritizes education, with proximity to Donggok Elementary School, Yeokgok Middle School, Hangdong Middle School, Yeokgok High School, and the forthcoming Bucheon Science High School. Residents will also enjoy access to a wealth of local amenities, including Homeplus, CGV, Yeokgok Sangsang Market, Yeokgok Nambu Market, and Bucheon St. Mary’s Hospital. Green spaces, such as Children’s Park, Hangdong Neighborhood Park, Blue Arboretum, and Hangdong Reservoir, further enhance the quality of life.
According to a company release, Ssangyong Engineering & Construction will leverage its global construction expertise to deliver a differentiated lifestyle through innovative floor plans – including dressing rooms and multi-purpose rooms – and a modern glass railing design. The model home for Ssangyong The Platinum Onsu Station will open in Oryu-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul, in February.
