The mayor of Ontinyent, Jorge Rodríguez, welcomed the students participating in the I Congress of Young Science of Ontinyent, which took place yesterday morning at the Caixa Ontinyent Cultural Center. It is an activity organized by the ESO and Baccalaureate institutes of Ontinyent, which allows students to exhibit a sample of the practices and projects developed during the course 2022/23, as well as listening to three conferences by professionals and teachers linked to the scientific field and also in the participating Ontinyentin centers.

In addition to exposing the students their scientific posters, the congress program included three presentations by Victor Montosa Micó (researcher at the Biomedical Data Science Laboratory of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and former student of IES Jaume I); Carla Folgado Out(researcher at the Center for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona and former student of IES Pou Clar); and Dr. Sergi Soriano Úbedaresearcher, (professor and Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Students at the University of Alicante, former student of IES l’Estació.

Jorge Rodríguez highlighted that “initiatives like this open up a window of opportunities, to listen to quality speakers who have also been trained in the ontinyentins centers, and to know science beyond the point of view of the classroom, also to the day-to-day work”. The mayor, who congratulated the students for the work done after the evaluations, was accompanied by Óscar Borrell, who was living his last act as Councilor for Education, to go on in the next legislature to focus on the coordination of the Territory and Municipal Services area of the townhall. Rodríguez had words of thanks and congratulations to Borrell for his work in this area.

Borrell, for his part, highlighted “the positive impact of the work done over the years in the Pedagogical Week, promoting educational research and innovation, as can be seen in the panels made by the centers for the samples, which have been represented in today’s show.” The councilor thanked “the work of all the educational centers to promote an education linked to pedagogical innovation. Education in Ontinyent has evolved over the years towards a renewal, a paradigm shift oriented towards pedagogical innovation that has meant a step forward for educational quality in the city”, he remarked.
