Chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, this Ministerial Segment will focus on the challenges and opportunities of middle-income countries, with the participation of senior representatives of Economic Commissions. UN regional representatives, including the Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Rola Dashti, the Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA, Hanan Morsy, the Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Pedro Manuel Moreno.
It will also constitute an additional opportunity to deepen the debate on the support provided by the United Nations Development System, regional and international institutions and other development partners to support these countries in facing the challenges of economic and social development.
Placed under the theme “Solutions to the development challenges of middle-income countries in a changing world”, this High-Level Ministerial Conference is part of the presidency of the Kingdom of Morocco of the Group of Friends of Middle-Income Countries within the framework of the United Nations, which he has held since 2023, and in the continuity of his advocacy in favor of the interests of developing countries, under the far-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of an active and united.
Organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, jointly with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Development Program, this Conference began its work, Monday, by the meeting of experts around key themes for middle-income countries, such as South-South and triangular cooperation, climate financing, innovative sources of financing and the middle-income trap.
The High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries, which aims to identify new innovative approaches to give new impetus to cooperation in favor of middle-income countries, includes the participation of the Deputy Secretary-General of the Nations United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed and the President of ECOSOC, Paula Narváez Ojeda.
Taking part in this Conference in particular are the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cape Verde, Rui Alberto De Figueiredo Soares, the Minister of External Relations of Cameroon, Mbella Mbella Lejeune, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Eswatini, Pholile Shakantu , the Comorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, responsible for the Francophonie and the Diaspora, Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, the Gabonese Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Sub-regional Integration and Gabonese Abroad, Régis Onanga Ndiaye, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
