Munnar: The State Disaster Management Authority has warned that there is a possibility of mudslides and landslides as a red alert has been issued for heavy rains in Idukki district till August 4. The water level has started to rise due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the dams in the district.

Six shutters in the spillway were opened to control the water level in the Malankarai dam and 153.858 cubic feet of water was released into the Thotupuzha river, while another 300.63 cubic feet of water was released at 5:45 pm yesterday. Similarly, at 10:00 am today, five shutters of 50 cm will be opened to control the water level in Kundlai Dam near Munnar. Raised and released up to 60 cubic feet of water.
