Opening of the new passenger terminal at Maitika International Airport

The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, inaugurated today, Tuesday, the new passenger terminal at Mitiga International Airport, as part of the airport expansion and development project, within the framework of the “Return to Life” plan launched by the Government of National Unity to revive development projects in all sectors.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport, Mohammed Al-Shahoubi, the Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, the Director of the Airports Authority, the Director General of Maitika International Airport, in addition to a number of officials.

According to what was reported by the official “Our Government” platform, Dabaiba expressed during his speech at the ceremony his happiness with the opening of the new passenger terminal and the ongoing maintenance and development work at the airport, stressing the need to improve the conditions of all airports in Libya, and confirming that the government is continuing the process of construction and development in various sectors.

The Prime Minister made an inspection tour of the new passenger terminal and all service facilities at Maitika Airport, praising the implementation work in this project, and stressing the need to improve other services for travelers and facilitate travel and arrival procedures.

The first phase of the new passenger terminal, deportation stations and security inspection system at Maitika Airport was implemented by the Administrative Centres Development and Improvement Authority.

The total area of ​​the passenger terminal at Mitiga Airport is estimated at more than 23 thousand square meters, after adding about 13 thousand square meters to the old terminal. The average number of passengers to and from the airport is about 3 million passengers annually.

The new airport terminal includes 30 passenger platforms, cafes, shops, a duty-free market, a business lounge, a baggage sorting lounge equipped with a baggage transfer system, security and service offices, and others for airline companies, a modern electronic system, in addition to other service facilities for passengers such as a prayer room and restrooms.
